Cycling's Potential and the Future Urban Environment
Given recent technological advances, combined with trends towards less personal travel, a transport future in urban environments is unfolding that is dramatically different from what most governments and industry trade groups have been planning for. To prepare for this change, cities and states need to start gracefully abandoning excess lanes, converting the space to serve changing needs and preferences. In these discussions, bicycling’s role is uncertain and sometimes problematic. What is known about cycling’s potential and path forward?
